Half double crochet 3 together stitch.

Half double crochet 3 together stitch.
Half double crochet 3 together stitch.

This is a very neat stitch and you can use different colours to finish every two rows. That is, you can make one single crochet row and one half double crochet 3together row using a single colour. Then change the colour and make a row of single crochet and a row of half double crochet with that colour. This will give a thin stripe in one colour. If you need wide strips in the same colour change the colour after finishing several rows, but remember to change the colour always after finishing the 2nd row.

Make a foundation chain of an even number or multiple of 2. If you want to practice the stitch make 20 chains or otherwise if you are going to make a baby blanket or a shawl measure the width you want in inches or centimetres and make a foundation chain accordingly and get the nearest even number.

Instructions: The stitches used here are single crochet (sc), double crochet and half double crochet 3 together. ( hdc3 tog.)

Foundation chain: Measure the width of your shawl or scarf or blanket. Then make chains to cover that length. The number of chains should be an even number or multiple of 2.

Row 1: 1sc into the 2nd chain from the hook. Then make 1sc to each chain to the end.

 Row1 with single crochets

Row 2: Make 4 chains. Now we have to do the stitch hdc3 tog.

Yarn over insert the hook to the next sc (not to the sc at the base of 4 chains.) and pull up the yarn, now there are 3 loops on the hook, again yarn over and insert the hook to the next sc and pull up the yarn, now there are 5 loops on the hook, again yarn over and insert the hook to the next sc and pull up the yarn, now there are 7 loops on the hook, Then pull through the yarn and release 6 loops and finally 2 loops. Now the 1st hdc3 tog stitch is done.  Then make 1 chain.

Then do the 2nd stitch of hdc3 tog.

Yarn over and insert the hook into the last sc of the previously made hdc 3 tog and pull up the yarn. Again yarn over and insert the hook to the next sc and pull up the yarn, Again yarn over and insert the hook to the next sc and pull up the yarn, (You have to insert the hook through scs three times.) Then release 6 loops and finally release two loops. Then make 1 chain.

‘’hdc 3 tog, 1ch’’ Repeat. Make 1 dc to the last sc of the row.

Row 3 : Turn the work and make 1 ch , and make 1sc at the base of 1ch, then make 1sc to the chain 1 space. ‘’ Then 1sc in the top of the hdc 3 tog stitch. 1sc in the ch1 space’’ repeat. At the end 1sc in to the chain 4 space and 1sc to the 3rd chain of the chain 4.

From Row 4,  repeat 2nd and 3rd row. until you get the needed length.

beginning of the 4th row.
beginning of the 4th row.
That is, Row 4 should be done as 2nd row

Row 5 as 3rd row

Row 6 as 2nd row

Change the colour after finishing each 2nd row.

If you need more broad stripes in the same colour change the colour after finishing several rows with the same colour.
