A coaster

Crochet kit for beginnerscoaster with hearts.

What are the suitable yarns for coasters:

Cotton yarns are most suitable. They can withstand more temperature ranges than wool, acrylic or silk yarns. With high temperatures, silk or acrylic yarns may tend to melt.  Further, they are not slippery and more stable than others which are made out of wool, acrylic or silk yarns. But, if stains are made on them not easy to remove. It is easier in coasters made out of acrylic yarn. But cotton coasters take time to dry.

The thickness (not the roughness) of the yarn has to be considered because the thickness of the coaster depends on the thickness of the yarn. If it is not much thick it may not prevent making stains on the polished surfaces of tables. But the yarn should be smooth, if it is rough the surface may not be even and the stability of the holding object may get disturbed.
When you make coasters you can make sets of 6 or 12 with the same colour and same pattern. If you want you can sell your finished products and can earn money from them.
You can sell any product you create thrice of the money you spent plus 3% of it.
Needed things: bamboo cotton yarn, 3 mm hook,

Before starting the work learn how to do 3 incomplete double crochets and 4 incomplete double crochets.

These 4 incomplete double crochet stitches are flat and broad stitches and have pointed ends. So, they look like flower petals.

3 incomplete double crochets (incomp. dcs):

Yarn over (yo) insert the hook and pull up the yarn and release two loops. Again yo insert the hook to the same place and pull up the yarn and release two loops. Again yo insert the hook to the same place and pull up the yarn and release two loops. Now there should be 4 loops on the hook. Release all the loops at once. Inserting three times means 3 incomplete dcs.
4 incomplete dcs: If you insert 4 times and do the same procedure above it will be 4 incomplete dcs. Here, there should be 5 loops on the hook to be released at the end.
Now the coaster,

Make a magic circle or ring.

Edging lace 3

Edging lace 3
crown lace

Edging laces are very common among women's dresses all over the world. Among women, it is a fashion that cannot be stopped. From one generation to the next generation it inherits from mothers to daughters or grandmothers to granddaughters.
It will add a feminine look to the women's wear. Most ladies buy machine knitted laces. But they are not much expensive than crocheted things. It is very expensive if it is a handmade crocheted item. So, there is a good market for you if you learn crocheting.
Not only women's wear there are so many places you can attach these. Where there are edges you can attach these and can get a nice finishing.
So, what are the places where you can add an edging lace?
Edges of bed sheets, pillowcases, baby blankets, baby frocks, hems of skirts, blouses, table cloths, around the sleeves, and necks of frocks.
There are so many designs of edging laces, very fine, thin laces which are crocheted by fine threads. Sometimes, broader ones are crocheted with thicker yarns.
I have given written instructions for this vintage edging lace and there is a video directing you to another one.

How to add the lace to an edge.
For this purpose we have to crochet a long chain, joining the loops of ch7 . First, join the same colour yarn to the beginning loop with a knot and an sc. Then make 7 ch and join to the next loop with single crochet. Continue to the end of loops.

finished lace pattern
        finished lace pattern

                                                            A  beautiful edging Lace
Most of the edging laces are not square-shaped. But the shape of this lace is rather square. The bottom part resembles the filet crochet. It is grid-like pattern and only two stitches are used as chain and double crochet. At the top part a V stitch and a shell is is found alternatively. The top edge is made with fan like parts.
This lace is crocheting from bottom to top. (vertically) The length is gaining from right to left. You can attach this directly to the garment because the bottom edge is flat. So no need of making a chain along the bottom edge.
This can be used to decorate edges of your skirts, blouses, sleeves of tops etc. Even for edges of baby frocks, blankets and  pillow cases also can be beautified  by this edging lace.
Not only to the edges this can be attached on to the surfaces of garments.
The stitches used here are simple stitches, mostly chain stitch (ch) and double crochets.(dc). "V" stitch and shell stitch
If you want a fine lace for baby wears use a thin cotton thread. For adults thicker yarns are suitable.
Instructions:
Make a slip knot and a chain of 20 chain stitches. This will be the width of the lace.
 1st row:
To the fourth chain from the hook make 1 dc, then to the each of next  3 chains make 1 dc.
Then make 2 ch  and skip(skp) 2 ch and make a dc into the next ch.
again 2ch, skp 2 ch, and dc into the next ch.
2ch skp2 1 dc into the next ch, 2ch 1dc to the same ch. (a V stitch is made )

Alpine stitch

Alpine stitch.
    a sample of alpine stitch

This stitch is tightly udone so, gives a tight finishing. There are no remaining holes. So ideal for sweaters. But can be used to make so many things like baby blankets, shawls, scarves, sweaters, hats, cardigans, etc.
 Instructions
First, make a chain of needed length. The number of chains should be an even number.
Here,  as a sample, I have made 20 chains.

Row 1.
Make one chain and make a single crochet into the 2nd chain from the hook.
Then make a single crochet into each of the remaining chains

1st single crochet row

 Row 2.
Turn over the work, and make 1 chain. Then 1 single crochet on top of each of the single crochets except the first single crochet in the previous row.

2nd row of single crochet
2nd row of single crochet
At the end of the row

turn over and make  2 chains.
Row 3
Make double crochets onto each of the single crochet (sc) excepting the first sc.

3rd row of double crochet
3rd row of double crochet

Row 4:
Turn the work and make one chain. Then make one single crochet onto each of the double crochets except the first dc. Turn the work.
with 4th-row of single crochet rows
Row 5:
Make 2 chains, yarn over and insert the hook down between 2 chains and 1st dc and bring it up between 1st and 2nd dcs as shown in the image.
Showing front post dc
Showing front post dc

Then bring the yarn and release the loops on the hook as you work in double crochet. This stitch is known as front post double crochet (fpdc)
On to the next single crochet make one double crochet.
Then again front post double crochet to the next dc.
So as (dc,fpdc) repeat the pattern.
Row 6:
Then turn over and make 1 chain. Then make 1sc onto each of the dcs below, except the first dc.
At the end of the row turn the work and make 2 chains.
Row 7:
Then make double crochet onto the top of the fpdc then an fpdc on top of the next dc. You have to do the pattern as dc,fpdc until you come to the end.
At the end of the row turn the work and make 1 chain.

Row 8:  Make 1sc onto each of the stitches below.

Row 9:  Turn the work and make 2 chains.
Make 1fpdc onto dc and dc onto fpdc.

Showing halfway o front post dc
Showing halfway o front post dc

After making a double crochet row always make a single crochet row.
Likewise, you have to continue the work.

Beginner 's lace

                                               A simple pattern for beginners.
In the beginning, you practiced the chain. Then a simple change has to be done in practice.
This is the pattern, anyone should practice as the first step of a pattern. Actually, you can't attach this for decorating purposes, but only to practice.
When you practice and practice with this type of work, you can easily control the fine movements of your fingers for crocheting. Crocheting is also work needed the fine movements of your fingers like writing.  "practice makes perfect"
Do more practice and achieve your goals. Here, there are only two stitches used, chain stitch and double crochet stitch. So, easy to practice.
Make a slip knot. (I have explained this in my early lesson.)

1. Then make 7 chains. and make a dc (double crochet ) to the first chain.

2. Then make 2 chains and make a double crochet into the loop of 7 chains.
